1. Data We Collect
We collect the following categories of personal data when you use Haye:
Identity & Contact Data: Phone number, username, display name, date of birth, gender
Location Data: Precise GPS location when you opt in to the Nearby People feature. Location is used only to find nearby users and is not stored continuously. You may opt out at any time via app settings.
User-Generated Content (UGC): Messages you send (stored encrypted), Signal Deck messages, and any content you post
Device & Technical Data: Device model, operating system version, app version, IP address, Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) push token
We use your personal data for the following purposes:
To provide and maintain the Haye service (account creation, authentication, messaging)
To enable the Nearby People feature (only when explicitly opted in)
To send you push notifications about messages, friend requests, and app updates
To power the Signal Deck matching algorithm (language, interests)
To recommend active users you may wish to connect with
To moderate content, investigate reports, and enforce our Community Guidelines
To improve the Service through aggregated analytics
To comply with applicable laws and legal obligations
3. Data Sharing & Third-Party Processors
We do NOT sell your personal data to advertisers or third parties. We share data only in the following limited circumstances:
Google Firebase (Firebase Authentication, Firebase Cloud Messaging): Used for phone number authentication and push notifications. Firebase is operated by Google LLC. See Google's Privacy Policy.
Analytics: We may use aggregated, anonymized analytics to understand app usage. This data does not identify you personally.
Law Enforcement: We may disclose data to law enforcement agencies if required by law or to protect the safety of our users (e.g., reporting CSAM).
Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your data may be transferred. We will notify you in advance.
4. Data Retention
We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account:
Your profile, photos, bio, interests, and location data are permanently deleted within 30 days
Your chat messages are deleted from our servers within 30 days
Aggregated, anonymized analytics data may be retained longer
Data required for legal compliance may be retained for longer periods as required by law
5. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data, including encrypted message storage, secure HTTPS connections, and Firebase Authentication for token-based access control.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights:
Right to Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
Right to Rectification: Correct inaccurate data via Profile settings
Right to Erasure: Delete your account via Profile → Account Management → Delete Account, or email support@sayhaye.com
Right to Withdraw Consent: Withdraw consent for optional data processing (e.g., location sharing) at any time in app settings
7. Children's Privacy
Haye is not directed to children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If we discover that a child under 16 has provided us with personal data, we will delete it immediately. Contact us at support@sayhaye.com if you believe a child under 16 is using Haye.
8. Provisions for the Republic of Korea
For users residing in the Republic of Korea, we comply with the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). We have appointed a Privacy Officer to handle inquiries and complaints:
